Rebuilding Permission After Trauma - The Role of Choice in Therapy

How do we help someone experience that their “no” matters, their preferences count, and they can move at their own pace?

Join Shirley Hicks for a Free workshop, exploring the role of choice in trauma-informed practice. We’ll consider how everyday interactions can support agency, and how well-intended invitations can sometimes feel like pressure.

Together, we’ll explore:

  • How experiences of choice and no choice can affect the body.

  • Offering options without creating overwhelm.

  • Respecting protective responses, including avoidance and compliance.

  • Making room for “no” and “not yet”.

  • Keeping consent present throughout your work.

For practitioners who want to bring greater sensitivity to the way they invite participation and respond to client preferences.

Participation in workshop activities is optional.
